I have had scoliosis for well over a year (almost 19 months to be precise). It all started January 18th 2012, I was doing laundry when I bent down and got it with shocking pain all overy back and my legs.
I had a job at Kmart for almost 2 years but since the pain started I had to quit working there. It was very gard coming to terms that I had to stop working at a place that had become part of my routine (and those that know me know that I love routine).
Over the course of the months since I started hurting and numbness in my legs started, I've come up with a few things that have helped me and that I hope can help others:
1. Swimming-the movement and the lack of pressure on your back and the cool water really help if your back is hurting (plus it relaxes the muscles)
2. If your leg (s) are falling asleep then you can stretch your leg out while pulling your foot back. That helps to stretch the muscles and get them to wake up.
3. Walking-if your legs are falling asleep or your hurting a little bit then get up and walk. Sometimes movement like walking (even short distances) helps loosen the muscles.
4. Ice or warm compress (depending on what works best)
I would try using any one of these instead of relying soley on pain medications. I really hope that these tips help you manage your pain as they have helped me :)
